As men are not able to fight against death, misery,

ignorance, they have taken it into their heads, in order to be happy, not to think of them at all.

 

As Blaise Pascal once said, we usually don't consider about them much. Does that make people happy? In my country, it has neither an army nor nuclear weapons, and the danger of terrorism is much lower than in the West. Unemployment is not high, we have the world's third largest economy, the rate of university enrollment continues to grow, and we have one of the longest life expectancies in the world.

Aren't these riches the fundamental elements of happiness?

Why is it that all these years, more than 20,000 people each year in my country continue to choose to end their lives in mid-life?

人間は、死と不幸と無知とを癒すことができなかったので、幸福になるために、それらのことについて考えないことにした。

かつてパスカルが述べたように、私たちはあまりそれらのことを考えない。それで、人間は幸福になったのだろうか? 軍隊も核兵器も持たず、テロの危険性も欧米よりはるかに低い。失業率も決して高くはなく、世界第3位の経済大国で、大学進学率は伸び続け、世界有数の長寿国でもある。

これらの豊かさは幸福の根本的要素ではないのだろうか?

なぜずっと、私たちの国では毎年2万人を超える人々が人生半ばでの幕引きを選択し続けているのだろうか?
